‘A Ghost of Her’ and ‘Always Like it when It’s Grey’ by Ileana Collazo

A Ghost of Her

Sea glass and brass sit on the shelf
while she drinks her tea
and the half-drawn curtains
squeeze a slant of sunlight honey milk.
Each gulp she sips makes her squint.
Lemony sting,
purple lip,
black eye,
bleeding heart.

A ghost of her sits by her side,
arms crossed,
eyes open wide,
waiting to ask.
While, she turns her back,
and mouths muffle whines.

Always Like it when It’s Grey

Each raindrop sighs as it bursts; the tin roof shimmers in their glaze. Puddles, like tears from mourners shed, collect in corners of the street. The air is scented with rain water, mixed in with violets and roses. As my umbrella once again stayed back at home tucked safe inside its slip, I skip and run and still get soaked; half cursing, half glad to be wet. I always like it when it’s grey because the world then slows its pace, and I can wonder on my own while others hide themselves away.
