2 poems by Michael Ceraolo

Gimme Little Sign

He claimed
to have pulled the fire alarm accidentally,
and I believed him initially:
no one would intentionally reveal
his or her own stupidity
But belief was completely erased
by his further explanation,
for, despite his previous career
as an alleged educator,
he thought pulling the alarm would
open doors rather than close them,
showing he shouldn’t be employed anywhere,
much less employed making laws for the rest of us

Not AOK

She was angling for sympathy
from her working-class supporters
when she spoke of her difficult making ends meet
while she awaited the first paycheck
from her first real job,
         but
all sympathy was lost when you realized
her first real job was U.S. Representative
