jeans and 2 more by Ken Kakareka

jeans

it takes
me
3 times
to wear
the same
unwashed
jeans
before
they feel
comfortable.
otherwise,
they’re
tight
and
itchy.
i like
to have
the smell of
my balls
on
the crotch
area.
and the
right amt.
of
mud stains
from
my dog
on
the pant
legs.
then
i’ll wear
them
for abt.
a week
before
they see
suds
again.
and on
the day
of washing
i wear
no pants
at all.

ode

there’s
always
an ode
to the
last page
in my
notebook.
this one’s
all
chewed up
from
my dog.
the spine
hangs
by a
thread.
it’s sad
to tuck
away
a plump,
battered
notebook
full of
truth-soaked
poems,
and
pull out
a freshly
minted
moleskine,
like a
virgin.
i wish
i could
carry
all my
old notebooks
w/ me
wherever
i go.
in a way,
i guess
i do.
somebody
will find
them
all
one day –
hundreds
of them.
and like
good ole
em dickinson’s
sister
found hers
and had
them published,
the world
might get
another
posthumous poet
of a
long-lost
soul.

bubblegum

many
of us
work for
money,
but
we should
work for
fulfillment
instead.
we measure
our time
by
dollar signs
instead of
by tokens
that are
deposited
into
our soul
and
spit out
gratitude –
the way
coins are
deposited
into
a machine
and
spit out
bubblegum.
chew on
that
for thought.
