Art Fest

The painter has his dick out
poked through the zipper
on his cargo shorts
It looks like questions
through darkened curtains
paint layered thick on canvas
He stands in the corner
of the white tent
forcing a smile
all the while
contemplating whether exposing himself
was the right choice

Her nipples are lovely
pink and pointed skyward
felt and rope
paint and photography
She smiles as I stare
comfortable with my close examination
but not comfortable enough
to start the conversation
on process or inspiration
I want to touch them
they look as if they want to be touched
but you just don’t do that

Twelve inches slaps both thighs
as he excitedly
moves around the tent
thick layered paint on canvas
No shame in his exposure
An attentive crowd closes in
As he bellows
on process and inspiration
holding us in his hands
goading us to pet it
Salesmanship
as great as his paintings

Jason Melvin received a gimmicky T-shirt from his teenage daughter on Christmas with a picture of one large fist fist-bumping a much smaller fist. The caption read, “Behind every smart-ass daughter is a truly asshole Dad”. It fit.
