Gorkoglyph 1.8

  1. GORKO LOVE
  2. FEEDETH
  3. THE PEACHBEAST
  4. CARNIES

Notes by Tark Mackintosh

Gorkoglyph 1.8 gives us yet another glimpse into the highly ritualized cult of the local carnival, which as late as 2005 was known in Peoria as the county fair (cf. glyph 4) and involved electric rides such as the Ferris wheel (glyph 4), prize fruit and beauty competitions (glyphs 2 and 3, respectively), and compulsory mating ceremonies in which lovers were paired off for monogamy, often against their better judgement (glyph 1). The peachbeast carnies were traveling Ferris wheel operators around whom you had better watch your sweet peaches. This class of workers clearly benefitted from the annual, forced mating rituals and blue ribbon competitions.

Markenbaldi’s infamous translation ‘GORKO LOVES PRETTY PEACHES AT THE FAIR’ is as insipid and ludicrous as his bald statement that ‘it appears that there never were such things as peachbeast carnies, and that they were invented whole cloth by Mr. Mackintosh’ (Glyph Magazine IV. ii. 35).

Well he can burn in hell.

Totally makes sense. I’ve known a few peachbeast carnies in my time, I can tell ya. I was just lucky I didn’t have any, y’know, sweet peaches.
