Voodoo
What I couldn’t see again was how easy
it is for the mind to draw a stupid correlation—
or that my mom could have touched her nose
for many different reasons other than attempting
to alert me that something odd was going on,
and that her daughter really wasn’t related to us
in spite of her egg being fertilized by Mr. Tulay’s sperm.
That is how broken the too logical atheistic mind
becomes after numerous supernatural encounters
with schizophrenia. Yet I still acted out of character
and shamelessly embarrassed myself again by
recalling that same stupid mind defending itself
by arguing that Life is too brilliant a case study
and investment to end after your first life, and that if
reincarnation is part of its design, then an already
existing consciousness should always kill the
potentially new consciousness that is designed
to come into existence whenever a sperm fertilizes
an egg—by getting reincarnated through that uniquely
fertilized egg. And so yes, my love, what I couldn’t see
again was how easy it is for the mind to draw a deranged
correlation—or that my mom could have touched her nose
for many different reasons other than attempting to alert
me that something unnatural was going on, and that my
sister is truly unlike everyone in the family in spite of
her egg being fertilized by Mr. Tulay’s sperm.
About the artist
Nate Star-to Tulay is an aspiring Liberian-American poet. He was born in Liberia during a civil war with a tied tongue and some deafness in his right ear, and also experienced another civil war when he was five and lost his childhood innocence to it. Nate’s experiences and struggles have made him a philosopher sooner rather than later in life, and are still his motivations to strive for greatness, and to be a fair, kind, friendly, loving, understanding, compassionate, and somewhat honest person one day at a time.
