Dream Thin Black Cat by Michael Lee Johnson

Dream Thin Black Cat

You, black cat.
I see you inside shadows.
Your memories blink—
half-remembered dreams.
Those nights you
curled beside me,
through countless nights.
My grave guilt leans into shade,
a craving for what’s lost.
Did tugging at your matted hair
cause your mini strokes?
I miss your gentle weight,
your midnight purr.
My black cat, painted with white stripes,
crawls my mind’s maze.
Reminding me of a
loneliness I cannot name.
This shame I can’t erase as your
absence hollows my world.
Daffodils hide secret bellies.
I curl inside my planet’s core.
I scout coziness, search for
some meaning in the dark.
I search for you, in heaven
for comfort you once brought.
You, black cat.
