QUEEN FOR A DAY? THIS TWENTY-SOMETHING WAS PUT IN CHARGE OF LOCAL DAIRY QUEEN FOR 3 HOURS WHEN HER MANAGER CAME DOWN WITH THE ‘VID

Local twenty-something Dairy Queen Grill Team Member Babs Sakarya was crowned queen, if you will, of the North Grand Prairie Drive fast food franchise for 3 hours this afternoon when location manager Laria Smitts tested positive for COVID and associate manager Luis could not be located on short notice.

‘When they told me I would be the Dairy Queen it felt like I was walking on air!’ commented Babs, indicating a paper crown that she had been wearing for the end of the shift. ‘I’d only been working there for like two weeks!’

Laria Smitts, who has been managing Dairy Queen franchises in the Peoria area since 1993, speaking from a hospital bed at an undisclosed location, said that there must have been some kind of misunderstanding.

Said Smitts, ‘There are no Dairy Queens per se, as in people who hold a position called Dairy Queen. Dairy Queen is just the name of the restaurant. What Babs was was acting Shift Lead Team Member, not a queen in any sense of the word.’

But why spoil Babs’ fun?

Said Babs, ‘I hope she is out for a week! Oops I am not supposed to say that. Get well soon Laria!’
