The Theme of the Week is Tessellation Nation

Every week our Theme Expert, Teddy, goes into detail on a new theme. This week’s theme is Tessellation Nation.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT

With World Tessellation Day (June 17th) right on the horizon, many poets have been caught red-fingered by friends and family, frantically googling the word tessellation in an attempt to be the first of their peers to cram it willy-nilly into a line of poetry. The upshot of this hurly-burly can best be described by this week’s Theme: we have in effect become a Tessellation Nation.

NO BUT SERIOUSLY WHAT IS A TESSELLATION

A Tessellation Nation is a country obsessed with the intricacies and beauty of tessellation, of course. According to a random dictionary, to tessellate means to form of small squares or blocks, as floors or pavements; to form or arrange in a checkered or mosaic pattern (Random House Unabridged Dictionary of American English ©2024). We are a Tessellation Nation because tessellation is literally everywhere! I can be seen in architecture, graphics, textiles, and even nature. Who is to say that your own face is not part of the Tessellation Nation craze?

DOES CHARLIE SHEEN TESSELLATE

Charlie’s Malibu penthouse, with its art deco overlapping grey and white stonework, is one of Tessellation Nation’s finest examples of tessellation. Oh Charlie, you are tessellating us!

Join Teddy every week as he goes stalking the internet in search of new Themes.
