You’re As Smooth As Tennessee Whiskey
I just found out that now you have another last name
That now a few days have gone by
Of thinking about the implications
Of this revelation from your private life
The years are not going to erase the act of committed love
The years are not going to substitute the results of a love entered into
The years are not going to remove love from the corridors of the halls of time
The years are not going to evaporate certain acts of commitment
When two people in their ages of innocence
Decided to leave vacant
The barriers that separated the two of them
Entering as one into the unique path
Today your email correspondence arrived at the library
Up and down go the thoughts concerning what your message could contain
What is for certain is that I couldn’t open it
The unthinkable being what the communication might contain
She’s Probably In Texas
We have been surprised
By the first of March
And in the passage
Of this year of 2025
You have changed the simple route of existence
In communicating with me through email
With all of the revelations
That you have brought from these twenty one years of not seeing you
It’s a wonderful first of March morning
A sun reaching houses that receive it
A sun meeting roofs of 19th century design
A calming sun meeting cars inside of the Oregon state
And during this process
Of the sun making it’s presence
I go into a pause
For the thought of what could your age that is coming this March 12th imply
I Remember Amanda
Among those things that are not always easy
Is the idea of growing up to adulthood
Now being that I remember two things
Jim Croce and the radio station of W.O.A.I. in San Antonio, Texas
In his ballads Jim directed to the light in the solitude of youth
With his voice of calmness adding tranquility
How calm was the voice of Jim Croce
It’s a shame that he had died so young in the airplane crash
And pulling up close to the stereo speakers
In the solitude of fourteen years old
Listening to a voice from San Antonio
Bringing the daily things of daily life from that distant town
Growing up was truly lonely
The announcer from radio station W.O.A.I.
Covering his daily details
Attracting me to mental reflections of sociohistoric details of distant San Antonio
