The Australian Diaspora by Travis Shosa

The Australian Diaspora

I won the soul of an
Aussie in a game of
calculated chance.

An incorrigible
scamp, I challenged the
man to a bout of
Texas Hold ‘Em,
in which I had
Home Field Advantage.

In the Lone Star State, I will
always hold a man longer
than he can hold me.
He will always fold neatly
as origami.

Now I eat nothing but
shrimp on the Barbie™ and I’m
italicizing cunt and winning Pulitzers.
Amy Taylor looks like Iggy Pop and
Michael Cusack is animating my weekends and
I’m Harley Cameron’s felt puppet.

I am privy to the boons of the
Australian diaspora and I am covering
Oi! punk on a yard sale Wurlitzer and a
German will come and I will beat ‘em
at 500 and I will win 500 bratwurst and
italicize each one.
