‘We found one! A woman!’ Jules yelled.

‘Alive?’ Harper called back

‘Yes!’ Jules grabbed her by her soggy clothes, and hauled her into the boat.

Jules and Harper met on shore, and half-dragged, half-carried the woman to their tent.

‘We’ve been here for a week, and we’ve finally found someone.’ Harper said.

‘I don’t know how anyone could survive this deluge.’ Jules shook his head as he turned the woman on her side to let water flow from her mouth.

The woman coughed and sat up. ‘Where am I?’

‘You’re safe,’ Harper said. He wrapped a blanket around her, and gave her a towel to dry her hair.

‘Did I make it?’ She rubbed her face and hair dry. ‘The last thing I remember was seeing that huge wave, and running towards the hills. I think…’ she closed her eyes. ‘I think I remember being knocked over, sucked into … something.’

She stood up. ‘Let me see the town.’

Jules hugged her before she fell. ‘There is no town,’ he said

‘Let me see!’ She pushed Jules away, and wobble-walked to the shore. ‘Oh, my God!’

The entire town was underwater, except for the church spire.

‘I have to tell them,’ she mumbled, and walked into the water.

‘Tell who?’ Harper said. He tried to grab her, but she was too slippery to hold.

Waist-deep, she half-turned towards the two men. ‘Don’t you understand? They sent me. They want to know.’

She took a few more steps backwards into the water. She was chest-deep.

‘All the people who lived in the town.’ A few more steps. Only her head and neck were above water. ‘You can leave now. You won’t find anybody else.’

Another step, and she was gone.
