Tanizaki Soup Song
Holding a warm bowl of soup
is like holding a fat baby
between moments like this
other bits of peace are found—
in the dimness of a dive-bar bathroom
where, in praise of shadows, one remembers
sitting with this soup
i’m lost in contemplation
soup, it’s les murmures, les chuchetemenz
empyrean in its contents
astral noises
they ring in my ears
soup-songs.
