Coming hard on the heels of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, the controversial new film from writer-director Amelia Wilson Trying To Get Home From Troy is reported to be a blow-for-blow literal retelling of the Homeric epic The Odyssey, the story of a Greek warrior attempting to make his way home following a drawn-out seige and victory in foreign lands.
And yet this movie is completely in English.
‘Obviously we wanted to film it in ancient Greek, but we had to give in on that part of the negotiation,’ the director told The Gorko, speaking through a translator. ‘I mean they gave us 250 million dollars, so,’ she laughed nervously, kind of trailing off.
According to reports from advanced screeners, the film’s absolute insistence on historical and literary accuracy has made it a very, very, very long movie. The 842-minute (14-hour) runtime, however, means that Wilson has been able to devote nearly an entire minute to every 14 lines of the original Homer.
‘This is a level of detail that you could really only replicate by reading the actual book,’ crowed the 55-year-old director.
This movie has already premiered in theaters everywhere.
