Every week our Theme Expert, Teddy, goes into detail on a new theme. This week’s theme is Super Bowl XXXI.
WHY SUPER BOWL XXXI WHEN IT IS NOT EVEN THE MOST RECENT SUPER BOWL
Super Bowl XXXI, which took place on January 26, 1997 between the Packers of Green Bay and some other team, is perhaps the most iconic and beloved of all Super Bowls, according to Packers Nation Spokesperson ‘Cheesehead’ Ronnie, because ‘the good guys won. Also: Roses are red, Violets are blue, Desmond Howard set a kickoff return yard record of 99 yards, And so did not you’ (Peoria Starr, 18 August 1997, page 9).
IT IS NO LONGER 1985, WE ARE NOT TRYING TO GET BACK THERE
Why not one of those Super Bowls won by another iconic, closer-to-home team, such as the Chicago Teamsters? Because several things, first the Chicago Teamsters never played in the thematic Super Bowl XXXI. Instead it was the Patriots of New England, woe is them. Secondly, this is not 1985, this is 1997, dawg, and the Theme of the Week is Super Bowl XXXI, not XX. Those are Roman numerals that mean 31 and 20 respectively, and what may be confusing to about-the-town plebes should be handy, everyday diction to a poet such as yourself.
DOES CHARLIE SHEEN HAVE SUPER BOWL XXXI PLAYING ON REPEAT IN HIS MAN CAVE?
Yes, he does. Charlie can not get enough of this week’s Theme, and reportedly has been seen at Robert DeNiro’s Nobu Malibu in his green and gold number 4 jersey on multiple occasions.
That is IV, believe it or not, in Roman accounting.
